PoCUS Course 5-7th April 2023

The Fiji CoE held a very successful three-day PoCUS course at the Fiji National University in Suva. Led by Jo McCann from New Zealand and assisted by ASUM volunteers Jane Fonda and Robyn Boman from Australia, the topics covered were basic physics, E-FAST, gallbladder, renal, and aorta ultrasound. The course was a mix of didactic lectures, demonstrations, and lots of hands-on sessions to consolidate ultrasound skills. To optimise the hands-on sessions the course participants was restricted to twenty doctors who came from Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, American Samoa, Kiribati, and Tuvalu.

Since the induction of the WFUMB Fiji CoE at the ASUM/WFUMB conference in 2019, much needed ultrasound education has been made available to all Pacific Nations. This has only been made possible by the dedicated staff of Fiji National University (FNU) Department of Anatomy & Medical Imaging and our volunteer lecturers. It is hoped to run three courses a year and this will only be possible with the continuing support of a volunteer network of experienced tutors.

If you are interested in assisting in future courses, please let us know via outreach@asum.com.au.
